Bee Eater Self-catering Unit

Bee Eater Self-catering Unit is situated in the private nature reserve of Forest Creek, set in a gorge of the Steinkampsburg Mountains in Mpumalanga. The unit is located near to Forest Creek Lodge, with activities and meals available at the lodge.

The self-catering unit is the ultimate in luxury and outdoor living, equipped with a barbecue, fridge, microwave oven, and gas two-plate stove. Features include a fireplace, full DStv, a his and hers outdoor stone shower, veranda, private garden, and a huge tub for two with lots of romantic candles. The extra-length king-size bed is made up with cotton percale linen and duvets, and a fan, electric blankets, heater, and a bar fridge are also provided. Firewood is supplied for the barbecue.

Activities available at Forest Creek Lodge include a bush bath set in a secluded spot with lots of bubbles and champagne under the moonlight and stars. Spoil your loved one and request a romantic, totally private candlelit dinner under the gazebo. Picnics can be provided for hikers or laid out for the romantics, and there are numerous marked hiking trails through the forest and along the stream. The area offers a prolific variety of uncommon birds species that can be seen including a resident pair of Black eagles. Horse riding and clay pigeon shooting can also be arranged.

If you take the self-catering option you are welcome to book meals and activities at the lodge, we supply firewood.
Dinner is a 4 course meal R250.00 and breakfast is R120.00 per person.

Activities include; Bush bath - set in a secluded spot, enjoy a 'bath' in the bush, with lots of bubbles.
Forest spa - indulge yourself in our private spa overlooking the gorge, go home feeling relaxed and stress free.

Gazebo romantic private dinner - spoil your loved one for a totally private candle lit dinner under the gazebo. Many a proposal of marriage has been accepted in this lovely setting!

Hikers picnic; a picnic packed in a rucksack, get ready to hike to the waterfall!

Lazy picnic; a picnic set out for you in a private spot, with champagne, a good one for the romantic at heart.
Hiking; marked trails through the forest, along the stream on the way to the waterfall.

Bird watching; we have a prolific variety of uncommon species of birds that can be seen, including a resident pair of black eagles.
Horse riding; 4 km down the hill, book a ride in our scenic valley.

Trout fishing; good clear water with rainbow trout.
Clay pigeon shooting; an interesting and testing range for the novice and experienced shooters.

We had some meals at the restaurant - super! Due to this establishment being pet-friendly, this was a plus [and the reason we made the choice to stay here]. Various walks enable you to be part of nature - the forest and lovely pools along the way to the waterfall was an experience never to forget. "In close proximity to Johannesburg and Pretoria situated in beautiful surroundings. The friendly staff, Mush and Anita contributed to a ideal break away. We enjoyed walking with our dogs and lazy days celebrating the New Year. The gravel road leading to the lodge not suited for a car, but, you can ask to be collected. Highly recommended for the hiker and nature lover."

"This was by far the most splendid vacation that I could take my wife to. The staff and owner Anita were so heartwarming and eager to serve us all the way. The cottage is something out of a storybook with every last single thought put into place. The outside showers makes you feel like a young child again and so close to nature. The bush bath is an absolute must for anyone and the Spa helps you feel rejuvenated and free. If there is anyone that has the utmost romantic at heart, even for wedding proposals, forest creek is the sure place to make magic happen. Nature is so beautifully preserved, thanks for that. The only slightly negative thing is the road from the N4 towards Lydenburg that is very bad due to potholes."
