Coombs Camp

Situated just 20 minutes on the East London side of Grahamstown, approximately halfway between Durban and Cape Town, Coombs Camp is an eight bed, tented bush-camp, nestled in amongst secluded Eastern Cape valley-forest. The reserve is teeming with a variety of bird species and small game and is an ideal retreat for nature lovers.

The lodge is set on 80 ha and is stocked with small game. We are not a Big 5 type reserve with lions snapping at your heels, champagne game drives and the like - it's do-it-yourself territory. We are self-catering only, and guests are responsible for all their own cooking and entertainment around the pool and braai.

The comfortably appointed twin bedded luxury safari tents are set in forest thickets, adjacent to the main lodge and pool. All sites have private shower and toilet facilities in canvas-under-thatch units adjacent to the tents.

  • "great camp"

    06 July 2015

"Jeremy is a wonderfully attentive host. Despite a power failure on our first night (not his fault), he was always in contact with us making sure we were comfortable and happy. The place is clean and the beds are comfy. Around the tented camp there are more creepy crawlies but it is to be expected because it's camping. Coombs lodge/camp is well maintained, great value for money and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others"

  • "Will return"

    04 January 2013

"We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Coombs Lodge. It really was so lovely and quiet and restored our souls. It was an added bonus that for the 3 nights we had the lodge and cottage for our group with noone else on the farm. General concensus is that we will go back again."

  • "Short but enjoyable stay"

    07 May 2012

"We decided to stop over at Coombs Camp on our way along the Garden Route and, whilst we only stayed for one night, would highly recommend the place and definitely look at staying there again the next time we're on the same route. The tented camp was excellent and felt very private whilst also providing ample facilities (separate kitchen, dining, ablution and sleeping tents). The owner (Jeremy) was extremely friendly and helpful, providing some good recommendations for our trip! All in all a very pleasant experience and you can't beat waking up to sunrise over the bush. Thanks!"

"Our stay was wonderful. We booked at the camp but got the lodge. All conveniences were available but the peace and tranquility of the setting was awesome. Will definitely use this accommodation again when in the Eastern Cape."

  • "A must when you are in the area"

    10 October 2010

"I am very happy that Coombs Camp was in our holiday planning when we went through South Africa. It was a real adventure. A really stunning place. We got a friendly welcome and the place was very, very, clean. The tents are outstanding; spacious and just so comfortable. The reserve is full of small game, birds and is situated beautifully. We already recommended you to all our friends and family and you get definitely five stars from us."

"We had the most wonderful one-night stay at Coombs camp. The tents were very comfortable and we had everything we needed. It was peaceful, relaxing and fun exploring for the kids. Jeremy was fantastic and we ate like Kings! The only problem with our stay was that it was only one night!!! Will definitely be returning."
