Klaarstroom Guest House

Take a step back in time and enjoy old-fashioned Karoo hospitality at this restored Victorian homestead. Situated at the Northern entrance to Meiringspoort, we offer you beautiful mountain views, fresh Karoo air and endless sunshine.

The house has lofty ceilings, wooden floors and French doors opening onto wide stoep. The decor is simple and elegant; a blend of period furniture and clean lines, echoing the purity of the refreshing Karoo landscape. All rooms are en-suite with ceiling fans and heating. There are two double rooms in the main house as well as a twin room. In the converted waenhuis there are two twin rooms with an interleading door.

We offer hearty country breakfasts and home-cooked suppers and hope to remind our guests that simple food, well done, is one of life's great pleasures.

We are an ideal, tranquil base from which to explore the Klein Karoo, Oudtshoorn is 60 km to the South West and the Great Karoo, Prince Albert is 60km to the East and the Karoo National Park is 120km to the North. Klaarstroom is also ideally situated as a stopover en-route to the coast from up-country or as a break in your trip between Cape Town and the Eastern Cape.

"Jeremy and Sharon were wonderful hosts. Just like stepping into a warm family home...from home. Wholesome and very tasty home cooked meal. Warm rooms and toasty beds on a very chilly night.Jeremy very willingly provided an additional room on discovering we were not a couple, my mistake at the time of booking!Breakfast was good and we enjoyed the friendliness of our hosts and the rustic environment of Klaarstroom.Could easily have spent the day with a good book in the gardenWarning! Don't book here if you expect a cinema, mall shopping, restaurants, sports caf or a hairdresser !"

We had the main bedroom in the house and as it was the period before the Easter holidays there were no other visitors.<div></div><div>Jeremy and Sharon are excellent hosts and after a comfortable and quiet night we had a lovely breakfast overseen by Jeremy.</div><div><br /></div><div>They were most helpful and offered us the use of their freezing facilities as we were on our way to a two week self-catering holiday.</div><div><br /></div><div>I would not recommend it for somebody looking for chrome, shine and modern facilities.</div>"

"For those who want to break away from the normal luxury, this a 10/10 place to stay. Quiet and peaceful, good food, good relationship. and clean. Just a great experiencefor the younger to experience the past and the older generation to revive it. Don't let appearance judge. Experience it. Lovely , humble and comfortable. Tks Jeramy."

  • "What a wonderful village!"

    08 January 2013

"I never cease to be amazed by the 'platteland' hospitality, arriving with car trouble simply turned into an opportunity to make friends! From the guest house owners, who immediately had the neighbour who knows something about my vehicle on call, the neighbour who even offered us his 4x4 so we could keep to our Gamkaskloof intenary, to the other neighbours who allowed us to use their facilities free of charge to get our vehicle going, everyone is just amazing! May Klaarstroom and all its inhabitants be blessed in abundance!"
