The Barn is located in the charming Victorian village of Stanford. The area boasts several heritage sights, one of which is this 200-year-old, barn-style cottage. The cottage has been restored to retain its original character and provides comfortable accommodation for four guests.
The cottage features two bedrooms and a family bathroom. The large living space offers a lounge with a fireplace leading to a warm, inviting kitchen. The kitchen features all the modern facilities needed for easy living including a microwave, a stove and a fridge. The large garden has a covered patio and ample place for children to play.
Stanford is situated between Hermanus and Gansbaai. The cottage is within easy reach of the beach and is a great base from which to explore the surrounding wine farms, the Klein River Cheese Factory and areas like Bredasdorp, Napier, Arniston and Greyton.
Be sure to try shark cage diving in Gansbaai, whale watching in Hermanus and a great meal at Marianas, Madre's Kitchen, Hovercroft's or Hennie's Pub and Grill.
"The Barn Cottage in Stanford has a long history and is a good option for a stay over a weekend. It is quite large inside and is well equipped. The main bedroom is a bit awkward due to the room being quite narrow and the double bed just fitting in, but the overall stay was comfortable. There is a lovely garden at the back which is ideal for birding. We enjoyed our visit to Stanford."
"The Barn offered us an opportunity to attend a wedding in Stanford. Initially a booking for only two of us, another wedding guest stayed with us as The Barn could accommodate four. After a friendly greeting we had a good look around. The Barn is clean, presentable, rustic and unfortunately, very dark. The double bed is tiny and sqashed into a very narrow room. You have to jump onro the bed to get to the other side of the room to open a window. It was an uncomfortable two nights. Especially for a tall person. The second bedroom has two bunk beds placed in a kind of T-shape. They actually looked looked more appealing than the double bed as pushed together may have been bigger and more comfortable? However our guest occupied that space. The kitchen is practically and sparsely equipped. No coffee plunger or maker. However you can make do for a weekend but may get frustrated for a longer stay. The sitting room was very dark. The rather pretty windows onto the garden could not be opened, when the sun finally made its appearance! The potbelly fireplace was however a blessing as it was a cold weekend and very cold. We found one extra blanket in a wardrobe in the bedroom. It was a single blanket which meant we ended up pulling it off each other all night in a battle to keep warm. I suppose we could have asked for extra blankets but we returned at about 11.30 pm and didn't want to disturb the owners. All in all The Barn is practical and fine. The owner did charge a per person per night fee. I think this was a bit naughty. A fixed price per night, rather than per person rate may make people feel happier about the cramped rooms and double bed. Such a pretty garden to enjoy on a sunny day."
"We liked the character and privacy."
"A lovely comfortable quiet place to relax for a long weekend. Everything needed is there, and spotlessly clean. Old construction means that it is cool when hot outside, and warm when cold outside.<div>Great stay.</div><div>Leon Ginsberg</div>"
"Beautiful, huge converted barn with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a big lounge with fireplace. Incredibly spacious with a huge garden as well. Braai facilities provided, and indoor fireplace, plus wood. Perfect for our small family - couple plus toddler. Easy walk into Stanford or down to the wandelpad along the river. Small play-park just down the road for little kids. Could have stayed much longer, absorbing the peaceful atmosphere of Stanford and relaxing in the house and garden. Highly recommended for a great value stay."
"We had a lovely relaxing stay at The Barn, a quaint and quiet spot. Some nice touches like handwash, shower gel, teas and coffee.<div>The friendly collie dog popped in to say hello whenever we were in.</div><div>I'll definitely be back.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ingrid, Bloubergrandt.</div>"
"Our weekend in Stanford was great, just what we were looking for. Nice little place to stay, it's worth a visit. The accommodation was great, simple, all we needed!"
"We had a lovely weekend. The cottage was full of character and offered all that we required."
"What an awesome time our family had!The cool thick walls of the old Barn were a blessing in the heat of summer. Was pleasant to just laze in the beautiful garden while the kids played in the afternoons. Mornings were spent by the river, Stanford Main Rd, nearby mountains and sea. Very relaxing."
"No offstreet parking in a very dark street at the wrong end of Stanford, resulted in us being woken at 3.30am by our car alarm going off. Only to discover that thieves had smashed the passenger window& stolen personal items from the cubby hole. The cottage would have been lovely if it were not for a really bad infestation of shongolulu worms everywhere. There were literally hundreds of them, on the walls, crawling over kitchen utensils, on the floor. We tried sweeping them off the walls and outside, but an hour later there were just more. It didn't entice us to eat in the cottage and we had to keep checking our clothing, shoes etc. Even when we left we tried to check all our things, but on arriving home found that on shaking out our clothes, bags, etc. some of these creatures had made the journey with us. A great pity as the place had potential, but really needs to be fumigated."
"I stayed 3 nights at The Barn It is an amazing place to stay but one needs to go with company as Stanford is a very quiet place! It is well appointed and wonderfully clean with new kitchen applicances, a nice outside area and private garden."
