Mirembe Cottage

Situated only 500 metres from the beach at Strand with its many restaurants, coffee shops and cafs, and of course the local market, Mirembe Cottage with its original wooden floors and high ceilings extrudes the charm and atmosphere of early pioneering days in a way that only the original can justify.

It offers comfortable accommodation for four to five people, preferably small families or medium to long term corporate bookings. There are two bedrooms which have recently been refurnished, the main bedroom has two beds which can be doubled and the second bedroom accommodates three single beds. The one full bathroom which is shared between the two bedrooms has a corner bath and a double shower, toilet and hand basin. The lounge is furnished with a very comfortable sleeper couch and it is equipped with DStv access. There is a fully equipped adjoining kitchen for self-catering which opens onto the Braai area which is ideal for entertaining. Secure parking is available behind a lockable gate.

There is also available close by a large entertainment area with putt-putt, a water slide, plus a heated Olympic size swimming pool and a tidal pool. Strand also has an 18-hole Golf Course which is sure to keep the golfers busy, and of course there is the famous Erin Vale Golf Course in nearby Somerset West. Guests can also explore the nearby Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve which has over 1300 species of Fynbos, plus some Greybuck and also Klipspringer and over 110 bird species.

Or you can take a trip along one of the most magnificent marine drives in the world towards Bettys Bay and the quaint town of Hermanus which is one of the most famous places in the world for whale watching and also the only town to have its very own Whale Crier. If you go in a westerly direction you can take a trip to Cape Town for shopping or sightseeing or you can visit Stellenbosch which is the oldest town in South Africa. Also nearby you can go wine tasting in the magnificent Winelands of the Franschoek Valley, South Africas French quarter, take a sober driver.

Strand also offers beach and reef fishing, boating, swimming and it is also world famous for wind surfing with international competitions being held on a regular basis. In recent times Rock Climbing has also become a very popular sport in the area. Other interesting places to visit in the vicinity include Table Mountain, Cape Point, The West Coast, Robben Island, the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens and African Penguin colony at Stony Point, Bettys Bay and also numerous nature reserves and hiking trails.

  • "Nice place"

    13 January 2014

"The place is very well situated. Rooms nice and cosy. Area very quiet. Very peaceful and allowed us to rest well. Will recommend it to anyone who wishes to get a break from the busy life in the city. The children enjoyed walking to the beach. No need for parking during the busy season."

  • "Very nice"

"Our stay was very nice and relaxing. I would just like it if you could do something about the cooling as only the one ceiling fan worked, but otherwise the stay was great. I will surely use the accommodation again in the future. Thanks for a great stay and Corinne, thanks for helping out with the extra fans and being there so early on the morning we checked out. Hopefully we'll see you guys soon."
