Tulbagh is situated in a beautiful secluded valley surrounded by the Winterhoek, Witzenberg and Saronsberg mountains. The Tulbagh Valley is at the western end of the famous Route 62, which meanders through the wineland areas of the Western Cape and Karoo.
De Oude Herberg Guest House is situated in Church Street and has been providing bed and breakfast accommodation since 1885. Translated from Afrikaans as 'The Old Inn', De Oude Herberg Guest House has, over the years, won several awards and accolades. These include winning the prestigious AA Travel Accommodation Award in the Heritage Accommodation category, two years in succession.
In 1969 an earthquake resulted in the collapse of all the historic buildings in Church Street. These buildings were rebuilt in the Cape Dutch style, creating 32 national monuments, all in one street; Tulbagh became famous overnight.
Tulbagh is a place to come to and enjoy the beautiful countryside and magnificent scenery; to take gentle walks, hike up the mountains, horse ride through the valley and take trips to vineyards, fruit and olive farms. Visitors are welcome at most farms to taste their produce and purchase their products.
In the town there are museums, gift and antique shops, art galleries and various restaurants to suit all tastes. In the immediate vicinity, we have at least 16 wine cellars and estates; they include well-known farms such as Twee Jonge Gezellen, Saronsberg, Lemberg, Rijk's and Waverley Hills.
"We really enjoyed our stay very much. The room was comfortable, neat and everything we could ask for, even real coffee with plunger. Bedding and towels were clean and neat. Breakfast was hearty and good. We would visit this establishment again without a doubt.<br />"
"Baie lekker gebly, vriendelike diens en die oulikste mense. Baie dankie vir die naweek."
"Very nice, would definitely recommend.<span style="line-height: 1.5;">Nice rooms, friendly staff, good service, lovely outdoor areas.</span>"
"Good place to stay in Tulbach. W<span style="line-height: 1.5; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: transparent;">ell located, and good value. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5;">A bit of warmest from the owner will make it even better.</span>"
"Wonderful!"
"Located in a monumental building, right next to the tourist office, in the peaceful village of Tulbagh. Big room and big very good bed. Complementary port wine when you arrive. Excellent breakfast each morning. Peaceful backyard with small dipping pool. Located in Church street with about seven fine restaurants within 400 meters. Bring earplugs if you want to get some sleep however, because it is an old building you hear your neighbours every move and the creaking floors (and the morning sounds of the peacocks in the street). All in all great value for money!"
"We liked our stay at De Oude Herberg. Tulbagh is a great place to spent a few days. The price comparing to other B&B's is to high."
