Gifberg Holiday Farm

Gifberg Holiday Farm is situated a mere 29 km from Vanrhynsdorp and offers the ideal getaway to experience nature with a difference.

Guests have a choice of staying in one of six fully equipped self-catering chalets that can sleep between four and 13 guests, each with its own appeal. The chalets are furnished with a combination of double and single or three-quarter beds, as well as private bathrooms with showers. Linen, towels and cleaning supplies are provided for convenience. The kitchens are equipped with two-plate stoves, fridges, cutlery and crockery. Some of the chalets also have fireplaces or fans and heaters.

A large communal hall is equipped with a central barbecue area with chairs and tables, and guests can start their day with freshly-ground coffee at the Oppi Dek Coffee Shop while enjoying the fresh country air and the serene view. On those hot days, guests can also cool down in the pool or just relax on the lawn under the trees.

The farm offers various walking and hiking trails with bushman painting sites along the way. Guests can also do a 4x4 route, take a swim in the natural pools or just explore the wild flower wonders of Namaqualand.

"The road towards Gifberg was quite a drive, but the views were so amazing and beautiful. I would want to stay there again, but for longer so that we can explore the area. Our Host was very friendly and was patient with us even though we had a late check in. Accommodation was very clean, neat and the place had something magical about it. Only thing I'd suggest is adding a oil/gas heater to some of the rooms or electric blankets for the cold winter nights."

"We managed to do two and a bit of the four hiking trails on offer (Potholes, Hamerkop and 5km of the 20km Bushman Trail). All highly enjoyable and recommended if you're okay with uneven terrain. Some of the footprint markers could do with renewing, but half the fun was finding them along the trail. Count yourself lucky if the labrador decides to join you. She is a charming, adorable and patient trail guide. We were in Kranshuis, which was warm and cosy on the cooler nights and is just below the end of the Potholes route with easy access up the little mountain for some fantastic views.The Gifberg Pass and approach to the farm is a bit dodgy in parts for a regular sedan car so take it slow if you don't have a 4x4. We didn't and we made it okay, but there were a few patches that worked our nerves."

"We only spent one night because we could not get a second night's booking. We took a small hike on both the Saturday and the Sunday. The scenery is beautiful, we were fascinated by the Bushman paintings and the cottage was very adequately fitted out with everything that we needed. The trials were well marked and the map that we were given of the trails was excellent. Lovely and peaceful, we will be back again."

"We didn't know what to expect and must say we were pleasantly surprised. At first I was worried about the road and must just say that it will be difficult to drive with a normal sedan. We did it in a 2x4 and didn't struggle. The unit was immacculate and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Next time we will definetely stay longer. Friendly people and the surroundings are breathless!!"
