River Lodge
About three hours drive from Cape Town and about two and a half hours' from Springbok, lies River Lodge Vredendal, the breakaway paradise in the heart of the Olifantsriver Valley. It must be the combination of popular South African country food, spectacular gardens, wonderful facilities, relaxing accommodation, friendly staff, and exquisite views of the surrounding mountains that make River Lodge a unique and much-loved destination for so many tourists, families, and many more from far-flung places.
River Lodge comprises 10 self-catering thatched roof chalets, six with double beds and four with single beds. All the chalets are air-conditioned, but for those who still feel the need to cool down further, a large swimming pool is also available. For those who prefer being served, breakfast is available in the dining room, with lunch and dinner available in the nearby restaurants. For a more down-to-earth occasion, a lapa with an indigenous flavour is available, particularly for private functions.

"Dissapointed as it is not self catering"
27 October 2014"The facility is beautiful and neat, however the add is misleading as it is not self catering. There are no stove and we wanted to braai but were told that the braai facility is only available for big groups. In addition the gate to the pool were locked on a warm Saturday afternoon when we wanted to swim (not very hospitable)."

17 September 2012"A lovely place to stay. Beautiful lush gardens and well maintained cottages with aircon and heater. The breakfast was a bit disappointing - very small selection of cereals and yoghurt, no fresh juice or fruit; cold coffee and canned mushrooms (as opposed to fresh). Otherwise a lovely stayover."

27 August 2012"We were very pleasantly surprised when arriving at this out-of-the-ordinary chalet-lodge, in a quiet and rather rustic neighbourhood, though virtually centre of town, with view over the river valley! Excellent and extremely friendly hospitality, superb breakfast, and restaurants in walking distance."
