Deruxa Cottages are situated on a 21-hectare farm that was acquired by the Moolman family as the ideal way to introduce their children to the outdoors. They subsequently moved there for a few years to enhance their quality of living and since then, the family has moved back to the city and the facilities have expanded.
The property is located a mere 40 km north of Pretoria, 45-minutes' drive from the eastern and northern Pretoria regions. The historical town of Cullinan provides many attractions and restaurants and is only 20 km east of the farm.
The farm has been game fenced, with a few species of game introduced. An open-air lapa, conference facilities and kitchen, bar and ablution facilities have been added to the property, as well as three free-standing cottages, while the old farmhouse was refurbished as a self-catering unit for family and weekend breaks. Deruxa Cottages offers a variety of rooms, ranging from self-catering in the old farmhouse to fully catered cottage accommodation.
The venue is ideal for families and friends to rekindle friendships, but can also be used by businesses to hold small conferences, managerial meetings and year-end functions.
"Remoteness was awesome. Some maintenance can make it better but did not bother us."
"Shockingly poor experience at Deruxa. We were at a wedding at another venue and aranged that we'll be checking in at 10p.m at Deruxa. When we arrived the number at the gate didn't work and we had to find another number to contact them on and ask them to open the gate. After the call we waited about 10-15mins for Frank to walk up to the gate and open it. When we arrived at our cottage the visitors next door were partying outside, shouting and playing extremely loud music and we wondered how this is allowed and how we would be able to sleep at all. Frank arrived at the cottage and told us he lost our key to our unit. After helping frank unsuccessfully search for the keys where he thought he lost it they told us they have another unit available for us but that it hasn't been cleaned after the other guests left earlier in the day. This is where we got in the car at 11p.m and drove the 3hrs back home. Would discourage anyone considering staying over here."
"We were so excited for this weekend and arranged the petsitter well in time. The cottage was clean and the linen fresh, so we were impressed at first sight. Our excitement was short lived.Unfortunately when we arrived at the gate, the number on the sign was going straight to voicemail and we barely had any signal to find another number.Once inside the premises, there was no one to receive us and after a while Lorato came to show us our cottage.Once we got there, she did not explain how the geyser would work or anything else. There was no signal, which is not mentioned anywhere. We had work to do and had to leave the premises to try get signal to contact our bosses. We then quickly put our food in the fridge and ice in the freezer as we wanted to keep everything cold for the weekend. When we opened the freezer 2 hours later to get ice, half of it was water, pouring out. We decided to put it in our cooler bag instead and to enjoy the rest of the weekend.Unfortunately we realised the fridge section was not working either as everything was thawing. The butter melted, the cold water was now hot and we realised the meat wont last the weekend. There was no sharp knives, no steak knives, no pan, no bottle opener, no garbage bag and the list goes on. This was quite disappointing as its advertised as a self-catering unit with all cutlery and crockery provided. We realised we wont be able to even cut our steak (if its still fine) or open our warm wine. We decided late on our first evening to rather leave early the next morning, after only one night. We are extremely disappointed."
